Old School Versus New School

Why is it that people that have never made one dime online look at those of us that decided to take control of our own life and created a business online as though we are a three headed monster?

My own personal experience has recently brought me to a realization that even in my own family, I can be looked at as if I am some kind lazy piece of crap that has decided to sit online all day and surf the web.

That since I do not go in to a regular J.O.B. on a daily basis, and since I do not punch the 9 - 5 clock, there must be something wrong with me and that I am hiding something.

Recently, what I thought was a simple and normal conversation, felt more like an inquisition and trial of how inadequate I was for society. This by someone in my own family whom I hold in the highest regard.

"What's the big deal with Facebook?" and "Who wants to hear that I am going to bed on Twitter?"

Although I agree to a certain point that maybe hearing about someone going to sleep for the night is somewhat overkill.

Social media toady is, in my opinion the last frontier for someone to walk in to from ANY industry and instantly have access to an endless list of prospects that are in need of what you have to offer them.

Is there a skill and a proper way of reaching them?

Absolutely.

Should you proposition and solicit everyone in social media with what you have to offer?

Absolutely NOT.

Let me get back on track here.

What I want to share with you today is not about social media etiquette, it's about the dream killers that walk into each of our lives on a daily basis.

I know that people may, or may not try to crush your dreams intentionally but all the same, the sting still bites just the same.

So is it that people are just so set in their old ways of what and how business should be done? Is it that the age gap is so different?

I am certainly not the first that has ever made a living online and certainly I will not be the last.

Then what is it?

Why must individuals feel that their own old school ways of doing things in life should be good for everyone else in a new school generation?

Let's face some facts.

Society today is not anywhere near what it use to be. Look at so called job security. Maybe when past generations had started to work for a company decades ago, they would work for the same company until retirement and their retirement would be set.

Now a days a person is fortunate to even be offered an employer sponsored health care plan. Long gone are the days where a person works for the same company until they retire. It's more common place for a person to work at four or five companies in their entire life before they hang it up.

On top of that, you had better be up to date on the most current technologies and online applications in order to stand a fighting chance at beating out the young, eager college kid that is willing to work at half your pay.

You don't have to look too far to see how many news stations, late night shows or even prime time shows are embracing social media in order to widen their audience reach.

If you still have doubts, just turn on CNN (Constant Negative News) at least that's what it should stand for. If you don't know by now I HATE the news, but I will save that for another rant. Anyway, you will see that they are always asking you to send them your comments on Twitter or Facebook.

Gee you think they may be on to something?

Here's the bottom line. First I love all of my family. I would do anything for any of them at the drop of a hat. I know that they mean well and maybe their old school ways of thinking is their self defense mechanism and their way of trying to keep me "safe".

However, it's time that they accept the fact that technology is constantly evolving and for me, I have found it best to embrace it and stay on the forefront of it.

I have never been a 9-5 type of person who puts his fate in some companies hand who could at a moments notice close their doors or terminate my employment simply because the choose to dissolve my position.

I will always be the kind that likes to blaze my own trail by following the steps of successful internet marketers. That is why some of the most successful internet marketers are my personal friends, coaches and mentors.

Here are three quick steps to fight off the dream killers in your life.

1) Find yourself someone who is successful in what you want to create online and follow their teaching. Let them mentor you. This is critical so you can shorten up the learning curve.

2) As hard as it may be, disregard those nay sayers and dream killers. Especially if they have no idea of the subject you are interested in. Everyone likes to give you their two cents even when you never asked for it. They will come in all forms, friends, family and foes.

3) Attack your daily plan to push your business forward every single day. Find at least one thing you can do to take action on towards your goals every single day. I recommend at least three tasks each day to find the greatest level of success.
